Penfolds, Magill Estate Shiraz Vintage:2010The 2016 Shiraz Magill Estate aged in 100% new oak (70% French and 30% American), which has left its cedary, vanilla mark on the wine, but in a balanced, harmonious way. It's a full bodied wine, with big berry fruit and lavish oak, yet those components are wonderfully judged, coming together in a fine, elegant wine that showcases the brand's home estate in the Adelaide suburbs. With only 15 cases for the United States, it will be tough to track down.

the 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Etienne Gonnet comes mostly from the La Crau lieu-dit and was aged 18 months in 1-year-old barrels

Silky and plush

dense and supremely concentrated

and although I still bought a financially irresponsible amount of wine

this is built for the long-term and unless you’re going to drink this when it’s very young it would be better to plan on allowing this to rest at least 10 years in the cellar

the medium-bodied and concentrated flavors are even more powerful than those of the Bougros and Valmur

it's at the same quality level

the ’09 is excellent nonetheless
