Description
Henry Kallem worked on the WPA in the late 1930's and later produced prints of and in both Provincetown and New York
An earlier state impression of this print is held in the collection of The Brooklyn Museum
who quickly demonstrated his mastery with this sensuous study of ripened pears and leaves
handling creases to image and margins
The print has been skillfully conserved and save for residual age related toning the image appears much as it did when issued
"Shipping-Venice" by Ernest D. Roth, (Amer., 1879-1964) Featured Henry Kallem worked on the1924, re etched 1941, 10 15 16 x 14 5 8, not in A. E., signed, titled & dated in pencil, on thick, cream laid paper. A complex and dynamic later Venetian subject, with much intricate detail in the rendering of the many boats at their moorings and distant buildings along the canal. This striking Venice subject is one of the artist's largest etchings and is not often seen.
